SURVIVING CHRISMAS 2017 Part V: TREATS & INDULGENCES

Choosing which recipes to include was not easy; the number of treats was higher than normal due to the General Election. But the Blogger made the Big Sacrifice and singled out a few.

There were - as always - a few showstopping indulgences.  As one friend frequently proclaims 'There can never be enough chocolate'.  

Many of the treats are easily put together and many can be made in advance.  Quite a few of the recipes emphasise lower-sugar and lower-fat without sacrificing taste and texture.

WE'VE GOT TO HAVE BISCUITS AT CHRISTMAS TIME  

Chocolate Daisy Sandwich Biscuits: light, sandy, a kid magnet but entirely whole wheat flour 




Pfeffernussetiny spicy chocolatey German biscuits, a surprise Christmas 2016 hit.  If you wanted to teach your kids to bake, this is the recipe; it occupies the kids for hours.




Lower-Sugar Cherry & Coconut Macaroons, indescribably yummy with or without chocolate; so easy the kids...you get the picture.  

Double Chocolate Chip & Orange: the only thing better than chocolate chip cookies are chocolate cookies stuffed with chocolate chips and scented with orange essence.  5 Stars.

Nectarine Blueberry & Ginger Hand Pies The combination of generous fruit, sweet icing and melt-in-the-mouth pastry is wonderful; leftover pastry can be made into cheese straws.
